Part 2: SMS vs WhatsApp for OTPs, With KES 200, SMS gives me 600+ messages at around KES 0.30 per SMS.
With WhatsApp, the same KES 200 got me roughly 150 messages.
So while WhatsApp gives you a richer experience for OTPs, order updates and payment notifications, SMS is still much cheaper if cost is the priority.

Part 1: SMS vs WhatsApp for OTPs. I needed OTP delivery working over the weekend, so I ended up integrating directly with Meta’s WhatsApp API.
It solved the delivery problem, but the cost comparison with SMS surprised me. Part 2: the actual numbers.

A first look at My Rafiki 👀, At iToka II, we introduced an early version of an idea we’ve been working on: helping people connect through events and communities.
Attendees could scan a QR code at the event, join the iToka group lobby and connect with other people in the same space.
It was our first real test and the feedback showed us what worked and what we need to improve.
We’re now working on the next version. More soon.

We tested this idea at iToka II: helping attendees connect through a shared group room before and during the event.
We’ve listened to the feedback, learned what needs improving, and we’re now building the next version.
Keep an eye out for My Rafiki. 🚀 #itoka #itokachapter2
